Béla III. founded the settlement in 1183 when he settled French Cistercian monks, built monastery for them which was named after Saint Gotthard Bishop from Hilderheim. Miklós Széchy palatine, then the Zrínyis, Batthyánys built its fortification surrounded with a watery ditch. >>>
